Our terroir: Gevrey-Chambertin

Our soil is a precious gift, our wines lovely reflect it: welcome to our Domaine Trapet-Rochelandet!

In the heart of the prestigious Côtes de Nuits in Burgundy, exceptional terroirs of the historic village of Gevrey-Chambertin are the cradle of great wines with a worldwide reputation. Since July 4, 2015, UNESCO has even enrolled our Climates of Burgundy on its prestigious World Heritage list, in recognition of their outstanding universal value!

Our vineyard, located on the heights of the village, is a family property passed with pride and passion for generations (Javelier-Laurin). Today, Laurent gradually takes over from Francois as head of the Domaine. Our 7 hectares of vineyards are spread over the most famoust hillsides of Burgundy, including the “climat” of Ruchottes that produces one of the most accomplished Grands Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin, well known for its richness and intensity of flavors.

Ruchottes, Petite Chapelle, Champs-Chenys, Carougeots… Each of our “climats” of Gevrey-Chambertin has its own identity, its own expression: it is our winemaker vocation to let you discover them in each of our wines.

Our ethics

We are the proud heirs of these fabulous soils of Gevrey-Chambertin,

mainly composed of typical Burgundy grape varieties: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Aligoté. This pride is also for us a daily responsibility, which in practice result in our winemaker mission to work with passion, courage, patience, discipline and humility.

All our wines are naturally produced without any additives (yeast, enzyme, tannin, oak chips...).

All our vineyards are maintained in compliance with the future generations (“cavillonnage”, plowing, weed...) certified by the HVE label – High Environmental Value. That is to say: we count our bugs, we observe the biodiversity of our soil, we control the growth of vegetation and we only act when the plant requires.

We choose low yields (32-35 h / ha) in order to obtain wines with concentrated aromas that flatter nose and palate.

We still follow old rules of winemaking, using traditional Burgundian methods adapted to modern technology. Some of our wines are aged in oak barrels, some by inerting in stainless steel tanks. All remain in the cellar for 18 to 24 months before they can be sold.

We assembly grapes while preserving climates. We do not make wine assembly, in order to preserve the diversity and personalities of each of our lots of Gevrey-Chambertin.

Every long journey, heat, cold, humidity may upset the wine. It is a living being that breathes and feeds. The glass of our bottles is dark to protect the wine from light. The caps are made of cork to preserve the aromas and to help the wine to breathe.

We participate in the recovery program for wine bottles, initiated by the General Council of Côte d'Or, whose goal is to reuse the bottles rather than produce new: a double challenge for the good of all, both ecologically and economically.

Everything is made here at Domaine Trapet-Rochelandet for you to have the best on the table!
